Google's Chrome exited beta last December, well ahead of when you might normally expect a Google product to do so. It wasn't, however, because the browser was necessarily ready for prime time; it was because OEMs would not pre-install a beta product on their computers, and Google longed for those deals.

It's finally managed to ink such a deal, with Sony. Google spokesperson Eitan Bencuya said the deal went into effect his summer. No details were given, such as financial terms (which we wouldn't have expected), but not even the models that Chrome is installed on, either.

Internet Explorer's market share continues to drop, but it still dominates the browser market. Some of that, however, is because the browser is integrated with Windows. According to Net Applications, in July Microsoft's Internet Explorer has a 67.7 percent market share, followed by the Mozilla Foundation's Firefox, with 22.5 percent, and Apple Inc's Safari, with 4 percent. Chrome lags in 4th with 2.59 percent.

Right on schedule, PlayStation 3 firmware 3.0 is now out and being fed directly into your console (should you opt to download it, at least), offering a number of changes to the user interface and Trophies section and animated themes with avatars. Be sure to come back and let us know what you think!

Update: We’re running the update now and the changelog that shows up on the PS3 has two new features we hadn’t heard about: simultaneous audio output across connectors and control of video playback (slow motion, fast forward and rewind) using the right stick. Nice!

On Monday, Rockstar Games, the developers behind the Grand Theft Auto series, announced that Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars will be coming to the iPhone and iPod Touch this fall.

Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars is currently available on the Nintendo DS. It's coming to the Sony PlayStation Portable in October. Price for the iPhone version? Currently unknown, and of course the app will have to make it past the App Store's approval process.

While it's unclear if Rockstar has gotten pre-approval for the game, some of the content typically featured in a Grand Theft Auto game would seem to run up against Apple's policies against adult-themed material in the App Store. However, Rockstar told C|Net that they had no trouble with Apple's App Store policies and that the game will be made available as is.

Also on Monday, Rockstar announced that Beaterator, an app that allows users to create “world-class beats and songs,” will also be made available for the iPhone. Like Chinatown Wars, Beaterater is slated for availability this fall; price is still unknown.

Olympus expanded its DSLR line-uptoday with the E-600. The E-600 is essentially a lower-cost version of the E-620 which was launched earlier this year, but with a fewchanges that help reduce the cost and differentiate between the two models. Targetingusers who are moving up from a basic point-and-shoot, the E-600 offers a12.3-megapixel image sensor along with Olympus’ TruePicIII+ Image Processor and in-body Image Stabilization.

You’ll find a 2.7-inch Live View HyperCrystal III LCD thatcan swivel 270 degrees on the E-600. To help eliminate blur caused by camerashake, the E-600 uses three imagestabilization modes. Designed for general shooting, the IS-1 mode adjuststhe sensor on both the horizontal and vertical planes to compensate formovement. The E-600’s two specialized image stabilization modes assist whencapturing moving subjects. IS-2 mode is ideal for capturing a moving subject inthe horizontal mode, preserving the sense of motion while panning. IS-3 modeachieves the same effect when the camera is held vertically.

Similar to the E-620, the E-600 offers some unique ArtFilters that let you enhance and customize an image in-camera. The E-600 comeswith Pop Art, Soft Focus, and Pin Hole Art Filters. The E-600 also offers aPerfect Shot Preview mode that lets you preview the result of various whitebalance and exposure compensation settings before capturing an image.

Other features of the E-600 include Face Detectiontechnology that can track up to eight faces in a scene and a fast burst rate offour frames per second. The camera also uses Olympus’ proven Dust ReductionSystem to help remove dust and other particles from the front of the imagesensor.

Olympus claims the E-600 is the world’s smallest DSLR withbuilt-in Image Stabilization. Indeed the camera is small, measuring 3.7 x 5.1 x2.36 inches (HxWxD) and weighing approximately 16.75 ounces (body only).

We figured the suits over at T-Mobile USA were on some of that good stuff when they slapped an almost comical $350 (on contract) price tag on HTC’s Touch Pro2, but evidently said “stuff” has made its way into the halls of Overland Park as well. After months of watching evidence mount, Sprint has finally come clean and admitted that HTC’s EV-DO Rev. A-equipped superphone is coming to its network, and with it will come access to Sprint TV as well as NFL Mobile Live and NASCAR Sprint Cup Mobile apps. The smartphone will go on sale September 8th, though you’ll have to pony up $349.99 (after a $100 mail-in rebate) in order to secure one on a two-year contract. We’re all about that 3.6-inch WVGA tilting screen, but with Palm’s Pre selling on this very network for a full $150 less, we’re thinking this one won’t appeal to many outside of the WinMo faithful.
